Alcohol is deceitful. "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise" (Proverbs 20:1). "Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart [understanding]" (Hosea 4:11). You are deceived if you drink!
Alcohol leads to poverty and rags. "Be not among winebibbers...for the drunkard...shall come to poverty" (Proverbs 23:20-21). "The younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all...he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat" (Luke 15:13-15). Millions and millions of dollars is wasted on alcohol. Woe to them who make merchandise of it!
Alcohol brings woe, sorrow, contentions, babbling, wounds, and inflamed eyes. "Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine" (Proverbs 23:29-30). Great sadness is the end result of alcohol. Drunkards (drinkers) don't go to heaven!
Alcohol at first is pleasing, but in the end is poison as a rattlesnake! "Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder" (Proverbs 23:31-32). Have you been stung by alcohol? It is a great evil!
Alcohol inflames lust, deadens judgment, and enslaves the will. "Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again" (Proverbs 23:33-35). Drinkers don't realize the foolishness they're into! Woe to drinkers!
