That Alcohol Has A Place In Our Society? By: Garland M. Robinson |
|
Alcohol absolutely, unequivocally, definitely, positively does NOT have a place in our community or any community! It is a curse and affliction from beginning to end.
Alcohol has no place in SOCIETY. "It is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted" (Proverbs 31:4-5). This verse describes the grave danger of drinkers disregarding the law and corrupting justice and truth. Consider Proverbs 23:33.
Alcohol has no place on our HIGHWAYS. Over 500,000 people are injured or killed every year in auto accidents involving drivers who drink. At least one half of traffic fatalities are alcohol related. The worst offender is the so-called "social" drinker who has had only a drink or two.
Alcohol has no place in our HOME. It is the leading cause of battered wives, husbands and children. Millions suffer as a result of its destructive force. There are thousands and thousands of single parents and orphaned children as a consequence of its deadly influence and devastation. It does not exalt the home, it disgraces it. It promotes no good will or greater love. It does not create a bond of affection and long lasting fellowship.
Alcohol has no place in the CHURCH. Drinking alcoholic beverages is not acceptable conduct for any human being, especially a Christian. A child of God has been called out of the world of darkness (1 Peter 2:9). He no longer lives according to the "lusts of the flesh" (Ephesians 2:3).
Alcohol has no place in HEAVEN. No drunkard nor even those who drink will enter heaven (Gal. 5:21; 1 Cor. 6:9-10). "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit" (Eph. 5:18). The word "drunk" means: "to begin to be softened, marking the process of the state." Even the moderate drink is condemned here! Drinking leads to excessive, immoral, abusive behavior. Those guilty will not go to heaven.
Alcoholic drink destroys one internally, externally and eternally. It harms and destroys the internal organs of the body. It sends the whole body to an early grave. It prevents the soul of man from entering heaven. Not one good thing can be said about it.
