Does The Bible Answer The Questions
Of Life?
Where Did I Come From?
Why Am I Here?
Where Am I Going?
by Garland M. Robinson
The Bible answers each of these most
important questions.
Where did I come from? The
truth is, we did not evolve, we were created. Our maker plainly
tells us, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth. ... And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our
likeness: ... So God created man in his own image, in the image of
God created he him; male and female created he them" (Genesis
1:1,26-27). "Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that
hath made us, and not we ourselves..." (Psalm 100:3; cf. Acts
17:24-31).
Why am I here? We are on
earth, not to fulfill our own selfish purpose, but to serve our
creator by doing His Will. The Israelites were told, "Thou
shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt
thou cleave..." (Deuteronomy 10:20). When Jesus was tempted
of the devil he said, "...Get thee hence, Satan: for it is
written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt
thou serve" (Matthew 4:10). In another place he said,
"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and
love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the
other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon (wealth) "
(Matthew 6:24).
Where am I going? Death and
the grave are not the end. There are only two final destinations
for all people: heaven or hell. The question is,
"Where are you going?" I know where you want to go and
where you may even think you are going, but that does not mean you
will go there. Are you doing what God says?
Because of sin, people go to hell.
"The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations
that forget God" (Psalm 9:17). "For all have sinned, and
come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
God has made a way of escape for
sinners (John 3:16; Romans 5:6-10). To be saved from hell and go
where God is you must: believe in Jesus (John 8:24),
repent of sins (Acts 2:38), confess Jesus (Acts
8:37), be baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38)
that they might be washed away in baptism with the blood Jesus shed
on the cross (Acts 22:16; Romans 6:3-18). You then must live
faithful to God's Will (Revelation 2:10; 1 Corinthians 15:58).
Don't believe the lie of the devil
that all you must do is accept Jesus in your heart as your personal
savior. It's not in the Bible!
