Jon Gary Williams We seldom
see lessons on this place we call home, and yet, our whole lives are
centered on this marvelous globe. How much do we know about it? Or,
still better, how much do we not know about it?
How
do we explain the existence of the earth? Why does it exist?
Where did it come from? When did it happen? Is it just an
accident? Well, the earth had to come from somewhere! And, only
three explanations have been offered.
This, of course, has to do with the great worldwide
flood which took place at the time of Noah. Through the
years, man had filled the earth with vile corruption.
The human race had become so wicked and debased that God
made the devastating decision to blot man from the
earth.
Yes, some day our earth will have a sudden,
horrifying conclusion. It will be completely
removed — like it had never even existed.
Jesus foretold of it’s great ending: “Heaven
and earth shall pass away, but my words shall
not pass away” (Matt. 24:35).
Garland M. Robinson
Jesus said: “He
that is faithful in
that which is least is
faithful also in much:
and he that is unjust
in the least is unjust
also in much. If
therefore ye have not
been faithful in the
unrighteous mammon who
will commit to your
trust the true
riches?”
(Luke 16:10-11)
Luke 12:16-21,
“And he
spake a
parable unto
them, saying,
The ground of
a certain rich
man brought
forth
plentifully:
And he thought
within
himself,
saying, What
shall I do,
because I have
no room where
to bestow my
fruits? And he
said, This
will I do: I
will pull down
my barns, and
build greater;
and there will
I bestow all
my fruits and
my goods. And
I will say to
my soul, Soul,
thou hast much
goods laid up
for many
years; take
thine ease,
eat, drink,
and be merry.
But God said
unto him, Thou
fool, this
night thy soul
shall be
required of
thee: then
whose shall
those things
be, which thou
hast provided?
So is he that layeth
up treasure
for himself,
and is not
rich toward
God.”
James 2:5,
“Hearken,
my beloved
brethren,
Hath not
God chosen
the poor of
this world rich
in faith,
and heirs
of the
kingdom
which he
hath
promised to
them that
love
him?”
In Psalm
31:19 we
read, “Oh
how great
is thy
goodness,
which thou
hast laid
up for them
that fear
thee; which
thou hast
wrought for
them that
trust in
thee before
the sons of
men!”
Psalm
145:20,
“The LORD
preserveth
all them
that love
him: but
all the
wicked will
he
destroy.”
Acts
26:18, Paul
was sent to
sinners “...to
open their
eyes, and
to turn
them from
darkness to
light, and
from the
power of
Satan unto
God, that
they may
receive
forgiveness
of sins,
and
inheritance
among them
which are
sanctified
by faith
that is in
me.”
Jesus said,
“...how
hard is it
for them
that trust
in riches
to enter
into the
kingdom of
God! It is
easier for
a camel to
go through
the eye of
a needle,
than for a
rich man to
enter into
the kingdom
of God”
(Mark
10:24-25).
Knowing
these
things, we
must
endeavor to
be rich in
the faith
of our Lord
and Savior
Jesus
Christ —
not rich in
the things
of the
world. Are
you rich in
faith?
First
Timothy
6:17-19,
“Charge
them that
are rich
in this
world,
that they
be not
highminded,
nor trust
in
uncertain
riches,
but in
the
living
God, who
giveth us
richly
all
things to
enjoy;
That they
do good,
that they
be rich
in good
works,
ready to
distribute,
willing
to
communicate;
Laying up
in store
for
themselves
a good
foundation
against
the time
to come,
that they
may lay
hold on
eternal
life.”
Matt.
5:16,
“Let
your
light so
shine
before
men, that
they may
see your
good
works,
and
glorify
your
Father
which is
in
heaven.”
John
5:28-29,
“Marvel
not at
this: for
the hour
is
coming,
in the
which all
that are
in the
graves
shall
hear his
voice,
And shall
come
forth; they
that have
done
good,
unto the
resurrection
of life;
and they
that have
done
evil,
unto the
resurrection
of
damnation.”
Are you
rich is
the good
works of
God?
LAYING UP TREASURES IN HEAVEN
Matthew
6:20,
“But
lay up
for
yourselves
treasures
in
heaven,
where
neither
moth
nor
rust
doth
corrupt,
and
where
thieves
do not
break
through
nor
steal.”
Matt.
19:21,
“Jesus
said
unto
him,
If
thou
wilt
be
perfect,
go and
sell
that
thou
hast,
and
give
to the
poor,
and
thou
shalt
have treasure
in
heaven:
and
come
and
follow
me.”
2 Tim.
4:7-8,
“I
have
fought
a good
fight,
I have
finished
my
course,
I have
kept
the
faith:
Henceforth
there
is
laid
up for
me a
crown
of
righteousness,
which
the
Lord,
the
righteous
judge,
shall
give
me at
that
day:
and
not to
me
only,
but
unto
all
them
also
that
love
his
appearing.”
Matt.
19:21
“Jesus
said
unto
him,
If
thou
wilt
be
perfect,
go and
sell
that
thou
hast,
and
give
to the
poor,
and
thou
shalt
have treasure
in
heaven:
and
come
and
follow
me.”
Col.
1:1-6
“Paul,
an
apostle
of
Jesus
Christ
by the
will
of
God,
and
Timotheus
our
brother,
To the
saints
and
faithful
brethren
in
Christ
which
are at
Colosse:
Grace
be
unto
you,
and
peace,
from
God
our
Father
and
the
Lord
Jesus
Christ.
We
give
thanks
to God
and
the
Father
of our
Lord
Jesus
Christ,
praying
always
for
you,
Since
we
heard
of
your
faith
in
Christ
Jesus,
and of
the
love
which
ye
have
to all
the
saints,
For the
hope
which
is
laid
up for
you in
heaven,
whereof
ye
heard
before
in the
word
of the
truth
of the
gospel;
Which
is
come
unto
you,
as it
is in
all
the
world;
and
bringeth
forth
fruit,
as it
doth
also
in
you,
since
the
day ye
heard
of it,
and
knew
the
grace
of God
in
truth:”

This
figure
is
the
number
of
out-of-wedlock
births
in
the
United
States
in
2022.
40.5%
of
all
births
are
out-of-wedlock
births.
Think
about
that.
Four
of
every
ten
births
involve
parents
who
are
not
married
to
one
another.
The
following
are
the
2022
statistics
of
out-of-wedlock
births
by
race:
Whites
(28.4%),
Blacks
(70.4%),
Hispanics
(52.8%),
American
Indians/Alaskans
(69.6%),
Asians
(12.2%).
These
numbers
represent
an
increase
from

Sadly,
the
number
of
out-of-wedlock
births
has
also
increased
within
the
body
of
Christ.
THE HOUSE OF GOD Tracy Dugger
Peter
writes:
“For
the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if
it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the
gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the
ungodly and the sinner appear”
(1
Peter
4:17-19).
Marvin L. Weir
God said to Jeremiah, “Moreover
thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not
arise? shall he turn away, and not return? Why then is this people of
Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold
fast deceit, they refuse to return. I hearkened and heard, but they
spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What
have I done?
every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the
battle”
(Jer. 8:4-6). Robert Ridgeway
A
Tale of Two Cities
opens with the phrase, “It was the best of times, it was the
worst of times.” This is a theme of
extreme contradiction and duality during the 1775 era French
Revolution. Dickens highlights that the period was simultaneously
hopeful and disparaging, wise and foolish.
